"Malaysia and Pakistan Share Team Honours"

Pakistan prevented Malaysia from taking all four gold medals in squash at the Guangzhou Asian.

The Pakistanis won the men's team final 2-0 with their lower ranked players upstaging the Malaysia's top two players, Ong Beng Hee and individual gold medallist Mohd Azlan Iskandar.

Beng Hee, who had not fully recovered from food poisoning, went down tamely to Farhan Mehboob in 23 minutes, 11-4, 11-4, 11-7. Aamir Atlas Khan sealed the victory for Pakistan when he avenged his individual final defeat by beating Azlan Iskandar, 14-12, 15-13, 11-4.

Earlier, the Malaysian women's team clinched the Gold medal with an emphatic win over arch rivals, Hong Kong.

The outcome of the women's final tie hinged on the opening match between Wee Wern(Malaysia), the World No 16, and 2002 Asian Games champion Rebecca Chiu (HK). Wee Wern, an Asian Games debutante, did well to overcome initial nerves and the experienced Rebecca to win, 11-4, 7-11, 11-6, 11-9.

Nicol David completed the formality of beating Annie Au 11-8, 11-7, 11-6, giving Malaysia their third squash Gold at the Games.
